The purpose of this course is to set us free from foreign supply chains which may leave us vulnerable in light of current international events. There are tangible difficulties in making cosmetics in the northern hemisphere given the lack of sustainable plant oils that are commonly used. Given this difficulty I have sought to create a product line with ingredients that can only be found locally. This course will present 3 base ingredients and 4 medicinal herbs found locally to demonstrate how you can make soaps, oils, lotions, balms, sprays and creams.
Using herbs that are native and easily found, or easily grown in a flower pot, and base ingredients are either cultivated locally or seen as sustainable bi-products of animal husbandry. I will show you how to make at home skin care which is nourishing and healing.
Some may object to the decision to use animal tallow in this demonstration and wish to use a plant base oil. Alternatives are limited but do exist, such as rapeseed or beech nut oils but these are difficult to source and require a processing that is not easy to do at home. I've taken the decision to make products that can be completed relatively easy at home on limited income with products that are easy to process and find. In essence, making a product as the sages of old did.
